Pros

Solid employer branding culture invested by management. Imagine Richard Branson’s Virgin. Some people have already brought up the fact there’s too much partying and alcohol, trust me, unless you’re a high $ performer the partying won’t come to you). There are monthly drinks to fire up competitiveness and camaderie among staff. Travel industry perks from vendors/partners. Lots of occasional freebies from vendors/partners. Lots of vacation (I notice some people said they don’t have much leave, I suppose they come from ops/travel consultants who have to work it out among their teams when it comes to leave application). Salary wise, fair. Commission based roles are often above the benchmark. There is job security for people who duck their heads and do their work as much and maybe more for bootlickers (see cons).

Cons

LACK OF PROGRESSION FOR THE REAL CONTRIBUTORS Too many inefficient management that apply to work out of Australia and being an Australian company, they tend to favour Australians and often place them in leading roles. Have seen too many of these “expat Aussies” who come and contribute nothing despite their 2 decades in FCTG. One thing that desperately needs fixing is the lack of meritocracy in this company. There is seldom promotion base on how well your perform. The way to climb is to promote yourself, request for the role and you’ll get it. The promotion system rewards on the principle “ask and it shall be given”. Of course if there are multiple applicants you just have to make certain you bootlick your way through to the hiring manager/decision makers of the role. All these, in my observations have lead to a great number of inefficient managers/team leads particularly in corporate functions. Imagine a bunch of incompetent, egoistic people leading... yes that’s the scenario. LACK OF TECH AND INNOVATION If you want to work in a fast moving, leading, cutting edge travel company, this is not the place for you. The tech has been slow to implement, FCM has been and still is playing catch up. They are followers, not innovators. This has nothing to do with technology and product managers, but rather a top down direction. Overall if you are a complacent person, this place is a nest for you provided you are more complacent than existing staff. This is not a place for go-getters, don't expect progression here and don't expect to be recognised for your work if you are not frontline sales.
