Pros

Salaries and Benefits are very good especially for Director and above. Great job security, good work/life balance depending on department. Could be steppingstone towards a job with a financial firm, much better pay than SEC

Cons

Very political, run by lawyers who get paid as if they were on Wall Street but wouldn't last a minute in a real firm, very much like working for the post office, only better paid. Log jam at the top for young workers trying to get ahead. Examiners are treated poorly, but young employees might enjoy travelling and staying at second rate hotels.

Pros

My direct supervisor is fantastic, and the environment is generally very collegial and friendly. The work is challenging and keeps me on my toes.

Cons

Inconsistent messages from people in top positions create a very frustrating work dynamic sometimes. All of the examiner positions are very writing intensive.
