Pros

A lot of my co-workers really seemed to think that FIS was a really good company to work for and my time there did seem to open doors to other opportunities outside of FIS.

Cons

It really does feel like you are just a number, the company is not loyal to it's employees and the pay/benefits are lacking. It doesn't feel like a technology company with all of the issues they have with their products/equipment.

Pros

Compensation was competitive with the area. The St. Pete facility needed some improvements bit overall wasn't all that bad. The ability to work remote when needed was made available and overall the people I interacted with with regards to Technology and Operations were good folks.

Cons

The commitment at a senior executive level was pretty cosmetic with regards to Information Security. With two significant breaches they put forth an effort to show a commitment but after a year it was pretty apparent that it was not a true commitment and put in place to keep the regulators satisfied. Overall commitment to data security, whether within scope of PCI or not, was not good. The biggest problem was the lack of corporate willingness to take the time and effort to access each division and understand the InfoSEC challenges each faced since the company was built on acquisitions and each division was built using different technologies and directions. It would have been better if the overall InfoSEC management was set up as a de-centralized function leaving adherence in the hands of a divisional InfoSEC team who understood the challenges in getting the division into corporate compliance. Over the past 3-5 years merit increases have been almost non-existent and bonuses to senior staff has been eliminated; all the while senior executives walk away each year with millions. Extensive RIF's take place within most divisions about twice a year and adds to staff are mostly not budgeted. It goes without saying that resources have been rimmed way beyond where they should so those still there continue to work crazy hours with little to no reward. As the job market in Tampa opens up they will start to see a mass exodus of resources in the next 1-3 years. Technology is being shifted off-shore to cut expenses leaving those behind with more work than what they know what to do with.

Pros

When the company was metavante, employees were valued. Promoting from within, retaining employees, and open employee collaboration was the main focus. The teamwork between diverse departments, prevented client outages. Metavante was tuned like a swiss watch. A typical employee could be woken up, in the middle of the night, to help out anyway they could. It was this ethic, that I too emulated. When FIS took over, many valuable "gurus" were let go. The tens of thousands of experienced hours went with them. This caused, the other employees to wait for an economic upturn to exit, which they did. This combination of voluntary exits and yearly "reduction in workforce" has left FIS in shambles, with constant client SLA's triggering loses for the company.

Cons

If you are a company, that FIS has just acquired, leave asap. FIS will diminish a person's work ethic to the point I could not wait to be let go with a severance. This happened and I"m very happy with the outcome. FIS reduces staff while increasing workload disproportionately. FIS manages by fear and micromanagement. A co-worker stated the new FIS ethic perfectly, and I quote "I've never worked for a company that despised it's employees". I agree.
