A Run of the Mill Company

Pros

It's a large company and there are opportunities to move to other areas of the company.

Cons

Management tends to use exempt employees as a free labor pool. It's not uncommon for exempt employees to work 60+ hours, six or days a week. Only executives and other select groups see any type of a bonus. Starting pay is usually at market, but increases are limited to 1-2%. In my first year, I was given an outstanding review, with no raise or other monetary compensation. There was no opportunity to train or further my skills aside from the CBT courses offered. Funding for instructor based training or attending professional workshops to sharpen skills is non-existent. Executive management rarely engage employees outside of immediate reports, organized town halls, discussion groups, or surveys.

Pros

You can get basic benefits which you can get with other companies also

Cons

1) Management has no clue and interest in knowing what their employees are going through. 2) Lack of support and respect from management. 3) Very political, toxic and blame gaming environment. 4) People spend 70% time in playing politics instead of doing actual work. 5) Management only interested in covering themself, hiding the truth and expect same from you instead of facing it and taking corrective actions against RIGHT people. 6) Overtime work not appreciated by saying even a single 'Thank you' word.

Dinosaur company crippled by bureaucracy

Pros

* Comp is generally pretty solid by industry standards * Parts of the org are making a genuine effort to modernize

Cons

* Tons of bloat and bureaucratic red tape that can make it very difficult to get anything done * Fiefdoms run by people with misaligned incentives will often behave in an outright adversarial manner * Managers are often completely non-technical and grossly misjudge work as a result * The company is a patch work of various acquisitions, and much of the tech is barely maintained and non-standardized
