Pros

FM Global does an excellent job of hiring good people, and I made genuinely caring and fun friendships with many coworkers, and my direct managers were very kind.

Cons

The pay is extremely below industry standard, especially now that new systems have been put into place, as that has caused a huge jump in the everyday workload employees have. FM Global approves hundreds of millions in membership credits for customers each year (not a secret, this is listed on the company's website), but increasing salaries have been pushed back for years. They have always had the money, they don't care enough about the employees to share it with us. The work-life balance that kept me there pre-pandemic is now gone. If you're thinking that the pension plan will make up for the low salary, please note that it is not given until after 5 years with the company. If anything I say below would chase you off before 5 years, maybe look elsewhere. The DEI initiative is solely PR focused, and the beginnings of FM Global's ERG initiatives are off to a bleak start. They made the mistake of filling several new DEI roles with internal candidates from the HR department. It's common knowledge that HR and DEI don't often mesh due to HR's historical focus on protecting the company. The current DEI team is passing on the dated beliefs of the past to the current generation of workers and encouraging them to be "patient"; in reality, they want people to assimilate. They aren't making the workplace safer for everyone; they're just trying to get diverse candidates into an EXTREMELY un-diverse space before it's ready for us. There really aren't enough POC or LGBTQIA+ people in this company to feel like there is safety in community. For example, I was 1 out of 3 black people in my office of 100+ people. That's really weird in this day and age, and I had not experienced that before working here. This company is 20-30 years behind on the curve, and they're still asking others to be patient. They aren't able to be authentic because they only know how to be corporate representatives, not people who push for social change. The DEI work being done is largely done by the BRGs, employees who already have full-time roles with the company who are now doing free work because they're more skilled than the DEI reps at actually taking action. It hurts to see so many ideas pitched by the BRGs being pushed down by corporate that could help but aren't because the DEI team is not ready to push for change. All this company wants to do is buy rainbow merch. It's a mess, but they've given themselves the title of experts and allies, so convincing them otherwise is a losing battle. Employees are also scared to speak out. So many negative things happen, and our opinions are always pushed down, so what's the point? I tried to speak out and was ostracized. I kept pushing for as long as I could because my fellow employees would thank me for speaking out. FM Global's higher management, DEI, and HR team need to realize that this company isn't lacking diversity by accident- it's a result of the incompetence of internal staff and recruitment teams to make this a space we want to be in as well as a lack of honest, earnest efforts prior to 2020. They also need to recognize that the employees ARE ready for change; it's the outdated viewpoints of management that are stopping it. If you're a potential employee of color, expect to face a lot of racist microaggressions and then have to work as a teacher to explain why they aren't okay, even often to HR, and then expect to be gaslit into silence. Having a solid ESG plan means nothing if the right people aren't in a position to make changes and if employees are too beaten down to speak out. If you're a member of LGBTQIA+ community, expect to go back to the era of "Don't ask, don't tell". I was deadnamed for (7-8) months after systems were updated, and it was never resolved, and my pronouns were almost never honored, but they'll make a cute little post on Trans Day of Remembrance while not even getting the basics right. It's all PR, not authentic allyship. They could have at least tried to fix that, even with just a company-wide e-mail or BRG post noting where the most accurate names are, but they don't actually care. They don't want change; they want bragging rights and to complete easy, meaningless gestures that don't rock the boat. TLDR; outdated company beliefs and every pro that this company offers can be found elsewhere.
