Going off the rails

Pros

If you live in North Mississippi, this is probably one of the better places to work.

Cons

Benefits slashed company-wide. Mismanagement from head to toe. Core product is splintered into an unholy mess of client-specific branches. Antiquated IT dept. very resistant to change. Alarmingly bureaucratic and hamstrung by technical debt for its age. Textbook example of how not to run a tech company, yet upper management is satisfied blaming the housing market for its problems.

Pros

Nothing good in the current situation of the company as they started laying off employees due to low revenue.

Cons

Development department has become worst in the past 2-3 years and does not have right people managing it. The department is headed by a business guy who does not have the vision and technical skills to guide the department in the right direction. He hired a manger who does not have much technical experience and does not have the right leadership skills to manage the department. People who have been working in the company for long and been loyal have been sidelined. This is the opinion of majority of the developers in the company.
