Pros

I have worked at Farmers for nine years. In these nine years, I have been promoted three times and had the opportunity to relocate once. I find employees are very loyal, very committed to our customers and are rewarded for their performance. I think senior management is responsive and listens to employees.

Cons

You might have to relocate to move ahead (particularly if you work with our agency force). This isn't necessarily a bad thing....but it's not for everyone. The culture is conservative but it's an insurance company....what do you expect?

Pros

It is a fun environment, it pays extremely well for the area, all of the people are wonderful, the compensation package is top of the line.

Cons

I did not like being stuck on the phone in the call center arrangement. I would have loved the job if it had been structured like an office setup, personal responsibility for breaks and lunch, etc. I was also disappointed that less than a month after I hired on, they changed their compensation package. It is still a very competitive package, but I selected Farmers as an employer because they were one of the few companies that still offered a pension plan in compensation package. I clearly stated in my interview that this was one of the draw for me to the company, when asked. Yet my interviewer never let on that the company would no longer be offering that to new employees, which I was going to be.

Pros

Autonomy, you schedule your own time. Company car that you get to take home, gas paid for by the company even for personal use, laptop, etc.

Cons

Management expects you to be a robot and just pump work out - but your work product must be perfect or your supervisor will be riding your ass until you get it right. They want you to be super quick - handle as much as you can in the least amount of time. But again, it must be perfect. No room for mistakes. Everyone works off the clock (undocumented overtime) in order to finish all of the work that is put before them. Management then thinks that these adjusters have too little work and gives us more work with no overtime. Farmers' goal is to distinguish between the highest performing and lowest performing employee. This is listed as one of their goals on a banner at the training facility.
