Pros

Good money for basically doing things that a 12 year old could do.

Cons

The whole software is created and maintained by a bunch of developers from HQ. All consultants need to do is bunch of basic configuration and some basic coding. All the tools that the company use are their own, for example they do not use GIT versioning, they have their own called FCR, similarly all the other tools used are proprietary and they all lag far behind the current tech scene. If you stay long enough here, you might very well not be employable anywhere else. Company culture is weird, everyone likes to drink a lot of alcohol, but its very difficult to form true meaningful friendship with anyone. Relocating to new places every 1 year or so can be challenging as some of these locations are very isolated.

Thank you for your response. In response to your comment about our “tools being proprietary” and “if you stay here long enough you might very well not be employable anywhere else”, it is true that we do not use GIT for version control. We use FCR because it is integrated with our bug/change tracking and project management tools. As we have mentioned before, our software is designed with a single goal- to provide on time and on budget implementations for our client. It is not created as a platform for individuals to use as a stepping stone. However, the vast majority of skills employees use are life-long skills that can be used anywhere in one’s life. Regarding your comment that “company culture is weird, everyone likes to drink a lot of alcohol, but it’s very difficult to form true meaningful friendship with anyone”, FASTies have many broad interests which makes our culture so unique. Just this week we shared photos of a team volunteering at a women’s shelter, one group attending an NHL game, and another team participating in an escape room. While FASTies may find some events more interesting than others, the point is most folks participate and the focus is not on “drinking a lot of alcohol”. While some may like to have a drink during or after planned events, FAST respects that as a personal choice, as long as folks are responsible. Through work and these type of outside activities, there are many who have developed meaningful life-long friendships. The “FAST Family” is real. It is fostered by the FAST culture and environment, and is experienced by most employees. You need only pursue our website and or several social media sites to see how FASTies develop “meaningful friendships” both inside and outside of the workplace. Ultimately, it is the individual who has the greatest impact on how/if their own personal relationships develop. What people value in a job and in their career is unique, as are the individual experiences and contributions of employees at FAST. We appreciate that not all people are a good fit for FAST.

Too many hours

Pros

Good pay and benefits, company tends to hire smart people and expects everyone to get work done.

Cons

Too much MANDATORY overtime!! Expect to work long 12-14 hour days for months on end. I have gotten to work at 7 am worked until 7 pm (with no lunch) and as I was packing up to leave we had a team meeting and we were all told no one was allowed to leave until the training team was done. We were stuck at work until after midnight and still expected to be back at work early in the morning. People have worked from 8 am until 5 am the following morning and then were expected to be back at work by 8:30 the next morning. This is a company that DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL LIFE. There is such a poor work/life balance its ridiculous. Project managers are often incompetent. They start as implementation consultants and get promoted based on tenure not on their communication or management skills.

Highly Dependant

Pros

Good pay for new grads Good health insurance Some sites are good

Cons

Your experience at FAST (at the junior level) is entirely dependent on the site you are assigned to. You start with a few weeks at HQ in CO to get training and get to know your class of new hires. Then you're shipped off to a site you have very little input on. While the people at HQ seemed nice, the experience at my site couldn't have gone worse. Management isolated and bitter, led by people who seemed tired of an endless rotating door of new-hires. Nasty office politics, no attempts at team building, and general dread toward coming in every day. Some of the people from my new hire class had better experiences - depends entirely on the management you're given to. Thus the title.
