Pros

- The office in Denver - AGM - They will throw booze at you like there's no tomorrow

Cons

- People who don't know how to lead end up in teamlead positions. You can't always count on the person above you to train or mentor you properly. Have to learn most things by yourself. Sink or swim. - Since it is a flat structure, organization and delegation skills are lacking. - Not much say on where you can relocate. Requesting is looked down upon. You also don't know when you will get relocated so you should make sure to find an apartment that will allow you to break your lease without penalty. However, accomplishing this is not as easy as it sounds. Prepare to bite the bullet if you must. - Pay is less than average if you don't want to relocate - Your programming skills will rot. Sadly, you will have coworkers who think they're programming gods. You won't always be programming. Most of your time is consumed with making the format of a letter "pretty". Be prepared to also work as a designer and tester. - Training is a joke. You'll have 5 days in Denver for that. It goes too fast, and it does not go through most things you will REALLY need to know to accomplish an assignment. Your best training is going to come from your ownself after finishing a task. - You will work in a very loud, chatty environment that is unnatural for a real developer / programming job. - There is no general manager on-site so there is no feedback on ANYTHING. You won't know what you're doing well vs. what needs improvement. Your teamlead will take all the credit if things are going well, but it's your fault if something is wrong. The presence of a general manager would eliminate this issue altogether.

Pros

Good starting wage. Relatively easy job. Moving is easy with professional movers paid for. Fun environment with occasionally paid for dinners and night out.

Cons

Wage doesn't increase with more responsibility. Relocation mandatory. Rarely consider location preferences. Co-workers not usually easy to work with. Required to work OT often.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very happy you feel FAST has a fun environment. We feel that cultivating an environment that promotes camaraderie among FASTies and their families, both inside and outside the workplace, is critical to our success. Please feel free at any time to submit any ideas you have that would help foster such an environment. With regard to compensation, many factors are considered when salaries are adjusted each year. As a rule, salary adjustments are based on performance and merit. We believe that people should be rewarded for the work that they do and the quality/efficiency with which they do it. Please feel free to contact us to discuss your situation if you feel this has not been the case. HR@gentax.com With regard to relocation, we believe that our business model of relocating FAST teams to our client sites is critical to our success. All of our clients, and most of our employees would agree. Because of this, we make it clear from the beginning of any recruitment that relocation is part of the job. It’s a job characteristic that prospective employees should consider carefully as they weigh their career choices. That said, we recognize that relocation is disruptive and stressful for FASTies and their families, and do whatever we can to make the process as painless as possible. To better match client needs/work locations with employee preferences, we have just implemented a new system that allows employees to communicate their preference in work locations to staffing coordinators. Employees can now, electronically, identify their preferred work locations as well as the work locations they prefer to avoid. It’s important to understand, however, that while the system makes it easier for us to be aware of employee preferences, as a business we must ensure that we make good on our promises to our clients, make sure their needs are met, and staff their projects accordingly. With regard to your management advice, thank you again for your feedback. We genuinely do care about all of our employees. We are saddened to hear you or someone you know feels alienated in any way. We would like to change that. The more information we have on this or any other issue, the more quickly we can address it. To that end, we encourage you to discuss your experience or observation with your immediate supervisor or your project manager. If you would be more comfortable doing so, you may also contact human resources at HR@gentax.com.

Pros

Management and partners of the company truly do care about their employee. The company pays very well. They also help you when it comes time to relocate so that you do not have to worry about the stresses of moving.

Cons

Can be stressful at times, especially when around roll out. Other than that I had no cons about the company.

Thank you very much for your feedback. It means a lot to us that you left FAST with a positive outlook on your experience and time with the company. With regard to stress levels, it is true that a lot needs to get done around roll outs (delivery deadlines). Remember, FAST implements enterprise software for governments. This means the software you helped install may be used by hundreds or thousands of government employees. The software you helped install supports thousands, even millions, of citizens! The software you helped install processes hundreds of millions of dollars in payments—money that is then used to fund public services. In this industry, FAST alone has a flawless track record for delivering these major systems as promised, on time and on budget. This can only be achieved with very hard work, which is usually associated with a certain level of stress, no matter what the job is. Fortunately, our stress levels tend to ebb and flow, with the toughest times being around roll out (delivery deadlines) as you said. We are always open to ideas on how to reduce stress levels while making good on our promises to our clients. For example, one of our goals on projects is to more evenly distribute the workload throughout the project life cycle to reduce working hours during roll out. We hope you shared any ideas you had while you were here with your supervisors, and would welcome any ideas you may have even now. We know how hard our employees work, and always try to provide compensation and benefits that reflect their efforts. Thanks again for your contribution while you were here, and for your help now via your feedback.
