Pros

FHWA offers many opportunities for professional development and are making a sustained attempt to nurture their workforce for long term service. There are opportunities for details in other offices, webinars, trainings, and learning opportunities.

Cons

Processes are arduous and complicated. Onboarding consists of no fewer than 27 (literally) forms, many of which are in hard copy. Doing just about anything requires several steps, though they recognize this and are trying to improve their processes.

Working with National Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Refuges Get to work on interesting jobs Fair compensation and excellent job security Great benefits package

Cons

The engineering tends to be boiler plate / not a lot of innovation on the jobs I work on Work in the field can be tedious (moving constantly)
