Pros

competent management and friendly colleagues. FSA and the Department of Education as a whole are generally more accepting of diversity; one of the few places within the federal government where you're free to be yourself. the mission is very rewarding (helping Americans pay for college).

Cons

Federal Student Aid is a 20 minute walk from the Department of Education headquarters (LBJ) building, which is where the gym and cafeteria are located.

Pros

Not many anymore. Used to have schedule flexibility and remote work, but those were taken away this year.

Cons

Run by lawyers who have never worked anywhere else, so they have very limited legal and managerial experience. They ignore basic principles taken for granted everywhere else and value form over substance. Attorneys are hired to do boring copy pasta work. Do not work here unless you are desperate.
