Pros

Historically, it was the people one got to work with everyday, those honest, solid, loyal, professional, and caring people one sees everyday. Ferguson's reputation in the community is stellar, even with the recent layoffs. I continue to take great pride in telling people I worked there.

Cons

Too many knee-jerk reactions when situations call for minor or major changes. The global project to implement a leading ERP software package is bleeding dry the senior and most knowledgable people who are vital for project success. The costs involved are staggering because most of the money being spent is for 3rd-party vendors, i.e. consultants. There were decisions being made that so completely handcuffed the project and generated level-upon-level of political issues that slowed the project to a crawl.

Pros

Ferguson was still hiring a lot of people when I went to work for them which has since slowed down. But at the time it was honestly the path of least resistance.

Cons

Abuse college grads by working them on a "salary Plus" system which boils down to being hourly. In order to get your full pay you must complete 50 hours per week. And overtime isn't allowed beyond that. So where most companies have to pay OT after 40 hours, ferguson doesn't begin paying until 100 hours in a pay period so you may work 65 hours one week and 35 the next and never get paid any more. Very frustrating to try and understand how and why they do it that way....

Pros

The best reason to work for Ferguson are the benefits. They have an extensive benefits package including employee assistance programs, retirement and college savings plans, and domestic partner benefits. Pay is reasonable, but not exceptional.

Cons

Ferguson does require long work hours and expects employees to be available where and when needed. So you may be transferred to another branch in the region with only a days notice. You have to be willing to work under those conditions to have a successful run with Ferguson.
