Pros

-Travel -Money -Excellent training programs -Excellent managers and coworkers (some are a hit or miss though) -You typically work heavily in the Spring and Fall, very little in the summer and winter, making extended vacations possible if you're a field employee (NOT guaranteed however) -Flexibility to live anywhere in the US (as long as you're relatively close to an airport) -Very good professional career to get started with. (mix of desk and on your feet work) -OK bonus structure, can't call amazing -Company laptop, cellphone, car (if you qualify) -Plenty of resources to assist you with work while you're out in the field

Cons

-Long hours and months and months of time spent away from home. A single phone call can have you on a plane the next day and working 7x13 hour shifts for months on end with no end in sight, it will happen to you. (13 hour shifts if you're a field engineer due to shift turnovers) -Working such long and insane hours can take a huge toll on your physical and mental health, if you want to live a healthy lifestyle with a stable social/ family life, this is NOT THE JOB FOR YOU. Zero peace of mind throughout the entire year unless you have the time off requested in the system. You hardly have any time to do laundry/ grocery shopping/ cooking while you're working. Divorce is very common too. -Billable hour plan- you don't earn ANY overtime with this position. You hit your allotted "1650 billable hours" for the year (you only get your salary during these hours, ZERO overtime), then you hit "premium pay". You can still make a lot of money coming right out of school with the pay system however, a lot more than any regular desk job will give you. This billable hour plan seems to be common for the larger field service companies. -Raises are non-existent. Even moving up ranks won't get you that good of a raise. If you want to get a real raise you have to leave the company, but that's standard with all businesses nowadays. -In the last 2-3 years, there has been a large amount of turnover of director/ executive and chief levels of leadership within the company. GE/ Fieldcore are constantly restructuring these companies so job security is mediocre. -Forced outages. Forced outages. Forced outages.
