Pros

Benefit package is above average, with many paid bank holidays. Job stability is decent within some analytics teams for key employees, but you'll watch your peers leave the company due to layoffs each year.

Cons

Yearly layoffs & constant downsizing of departments with the workload constantly piled on to remaining employees. After many years, I was doing the work of 3 other employees who either quit or were laid off added to my workload. Your experience will depend completely on your manager's competency & style, but overall there is a negative management style that trickles down from the top. The general expectation is that you won't take vacation because you're doing the work of 3 employees so there is no backup or coverage to allow for time off. My manager was new to management and micromanaged every aspect of the work I did, because he was clueless about the job. A lot of emphasis is placed on annual employee engagement employee surveys where you're required to rate your manager. This process is coercive where the entire department is required to give only positive ratings. If any team member gives less than the highest rating, everyone will be required to participate in time consuming exercises for the rest of the year until the ratings improve to the correct level deemed by management. A lot of emphasis is put on fake reviews and the appearance of employee satisfaction.

Pros

Benefits are pretty good. Compensation is competitive.

Cons

I’ve been working at the bank awhile and each year they have gone through some round of layoffs. This year (following the tax cuts) they’ve gone through their biggest yet. Most of the people let go were in corporate positions - Marketing, IT, Commercial, Analytics...you name it and somebody was let go. They’ve let go highly tenured employees, recent less than 1 year graduates, and high performers. These layoffs have been going on for the past 3-4 months. They spread the news out so it stays out of the public news. Employees still at the bank are unhappy and I’ve heard from many that they are stressed b/c of the lack of job security.
