Pros

Work/Life balance is great since you are not allowed to work over time. Advancement opportunities are available for high performers. Product offerings are improving to attract new customers. 401k is highly competitive.

Cons

The training program is 8-12 weeks, and you will not learn what you need to know during this time. If you do not hit your sales target for 2 consecutive months, you will be written up. Commission is now paid out quarterly or semi-annually and not monthly.

Pros

Great benefits which encourage eating healthy, living a healthy lifestyle and you are rewarded for doing those activities. Tenured MLO's will quickly be forced to do more on their loans than any other lender and the new lender will learn how not to do mortgage lending.

Cons

Absolutely HORRIBLE processers and processing times. The way they handle loans, even with a new loan system is not efficient. There is very little management with the processing teams, which are not incentivized to close loans (they are only paid on dispositioning loans: funding loans or denying loans), so they have no skin in the game. Upper management talks a big game, but seem to be waiting and maxing-out their 401k, before they cash-out and retire. I never thought making the move to Fifth Third would be as bad as it turned out.

Pros

Working with customers. Employees mostly stick together and support each other, especially in the normal case of no support from management.

Cons

Management is poor, generally inexperienced. The environment is highly unprofessional. Branch managers have poor communication skills and generally poor people skills. Open complaining and gossip of other employees and customers by managers. My manager’s experience was all from 5/3, he did not actually manage but consulted with the regional manager for every situation. Fifth Third is not a company known for valuing their employees or customers, unfortunately. Before pursuing employment with 5/3 ask around in your own circles and see what previous and current customers are saying.
