Pros

Some say during these economic times you should be happy with having a job thats not pumping gas, I am, just not happy getting paid like a guy pumping gas.

Cons

Pay is terrible, benefits are terrible and are only getting worse starting in 2012, The company rapes every customer but wants them to come back with a smile for future service. District managers are arrogant and incapable, should I continue?

Pros

The pay isnt bad, made about 40K the first year but worked between 50-55 hrs/week. It's fast paced and you have a definite opportunity to show off your selling chops if you so choose. The opportunity for advancement within the company is very real, and is based primarily on sales performance and customer retention. There are store managers in my district that earn $200,000+ a year (the ones that have figured out how to work the bonus structure). I think $80,000-$120,000 is more the average. It's also very rewarding helping people take care of their vehicles, and making an uncomfortable trip to the repair shop easier.

Cons

Working within the auto repair industry can be very challenging, physically and mentally. Many people will just assume you are a crook and a liar. You will interact with highly emotional people, and will need to ask for sales even when customers become upset. You will stand on your feet all day as well, running all over and being very active. 10-12 hr shifts are the norm.

Pros

I genuinely enjoy the people that I work with. Yes, the technicians can be a bit to handle at times but if you build a good relationship with them then it usually isn't an issue. It honestly feels great to help a customer who needed your help. Good benefits and opportunities for advancement.

Cons

The hours, plain and simple. You can guarantee that you will work 50+ hours a week and forget about weekends. Standing all day and running up and down the bays while the phone rings off the hook and having 10 customers in front of you is never fun. They expect you to be plastic man, do it all and do it now. The majority of customers are not happy to be there in the first place and make you feel like it is your fault that there is something wrong with their car. The pay could be better or at least some recognition when you outsell everyone in the store that has been there for much longer than you have. At the end of the day, you just don't look forward to coming to work.
