Pros

I worked at the company for almost a year as both an Instructor and Lead Instructor. Overall FirstSteps for Kids is a great company and I only have good things to say. I had little experience in the field and so it was great to receive the amazing training I did. Not only do they focus on theoretical training, but they also do overlaps and ease you into running sessions independently. The staff with more experience, especially the Program Directors, are incredible and are always willing to help. Communication within the staff is also a positive of this company. They are also great with working with you in terms of hours and location. Support in terms of wanting to advance in the field is always there as well. This company is truly amazing and I would definitely recommend it and come back in the future.

Cons

Other than the complications that come with scheduling, there are no cons.

Pros

FirstSteps was a great place to work, right from the very beginning. The training program is outstanding--they make sure to cover everything you need to know, and then provide training in the field. There is also ongoing PD supervision and feedback, which is so helpful for knowing what's working well and what could be adjusted. Everyone on staff was always super helpful and I loved the office environment. And of course, the kids are awesome. I loved getting to see my kiddos' progress during the time I was there. Also, if you're interested in staying in the field long-term, the clinical team is more than happy to provide support and supervision along the way.

Cons

Schedule could be a bit inconsistent when families cancel last minute. Instructors are paid at their direct rate for office time when this happens, but it would be preferable to have an actual session. Sometimes the driving got to be a bit much, but the scheduling team was good about working with me on that.

Pros

Open door policy! Even if supervisors are busy, they will always try to make time to listen to any issues you are having and help figure out a professional solution to the problem. Training is amazing! This company does not slack off when it comes to training employees! The clinical staff really does care about the staff and tries to address any issues and resolve them so that the employees stay happy

Cons

Scheduling is sometimes frustrating to deal with, because time-off requests are not always communicated well, and schedules are given out late and often times a 'full-time' employee will only be scheduled for 12 hours. Instructors have no say in the schedule, we just have to go where we are asked.
