Pros

The pay is decent for store manager and you get to focus on just product and service. There is no worries about selling bs warranties or credit cards. The DM's and regionals I have met are good people who provide good feedback.

Cons

Payroll - Payroll was tight before and then they went to a new model that is basically ludicrous. I have been in retail a while and I am used to running light but it is not even reasonably practical to run with the hours I am expected to. There isn't even any time to recover stores properly or to work freight properly let alone do their "world recoveries." The new labor model makes me contemplate leaving while I enjoy most other aspects of the job. The benefits are also pretty mediocre but not awful. The bonus program is garbage for the store manager level, almost to the point of insulting.

Pros

Nice discount, relaxed dress code, and fundraisers for great causes.

Cons

Payroll is tight and keeps getting tighter. The work load expected to be finished by one person couldn’t even be finished rushed by two people. The work load is outrageous. On average only two people to sort through and put out 450-600 boxes of merchandise in a 7 hour span. Only two people to close and clean a store after a very busy day. We all run around like chickens without heads trying to get through the workload. The pay is very low. Cashiers at other companies make more than our management does. It’s sickening. We work a lot off the clock because payroll is so tight and we can’t get the work done. So not only are we not getting paid enough but we are working for free as well. There is no work life balance as we are taking on these extra hours. Sadly there are store managers with many children who can’t afford a home after spending 50+ hours busting their butts. From what I’ve seen district managers do not help in any way. They never get their hands dirty and help with the work load. All the stress causes a lot of tension within management who end up turning on each other which wouldn’t be happening if we were given the payroll to get the job done. Every week there are new stores opening up and within 8 months of opening they have paid for themselves so why are they cutting our payroll and not paying us a fair wage? They are obviously doing well.

Pros

- All employees were very kind, you build your own team and can make the best of it - The work itself outside of holiday season is easy, steady, and not too overwhelming - You can have a lot of fun merchandising and making fun shopping experiences for kids :) - Pay is decent for AMs and SMs - Benefits are great! Health, dental etc.

Cons

- Very little training - High expectations for a dollar store, especially with the low hours given in payroll - LOTS of unpaid overtime for salaried manager. Paid for 45 hrs a week but worked closer to 80hrs at times - Little to no work/life balance - Rude district managers, regional managers, and corporate as a whole - Every night you have to remerch the ENTIRE store because every shelf ends up destroyed - District managers are very pushy on store sets, expecting them to be done within a two days - If stores within your district or nearby districts are understaffed, they will pull you from your store and expect that you cover others - Tons of call outs from associates in your store and in others, low pay for associates as well so lots of turnover - Bad communication with DMs and RMs - New merchandising process is terrible and a waste of time, but is expected I feel like I could go on forever about the cons LOL
