Pros

Fjorge has a really cool employee culture. It’s a place to go if you’d like to make some actual, real life friends, and learn a lot in a little time. Employees are supportive of one another, on a career level but also as individuals. I sincerely hope that never changes. The work is diverse, interesting, and complicated. I really enjoy the work itself.

Cons

Time tracking is exhausting. You are expected to run timers for each task, stop tasks if you’re too close to a client’s end of plan hours, and request more hours if you run up on the end of a plan. In some clients’ cases, there are only a few hours in a plan, which leads to very awkward calls. No day goes by without at least two meetings. These are seen as a positive at Fjorge and I partially agree, since they keep you on track, but you can expect never to truly flow at work. Finally, and most disturbingly, management gaslights frequently. This is a big problem and the reason so many have moved to other positions recently. “This is an open discussion” really means “this is a space for education and a pretense of hearing your concerns.” One employee, after leaving, and posting a negative review of Fjorge on Glassdoor, was shamed within the company Slack channel afterward, and we came to learn that one manager confronted him about his review after his departure. TLDR great culture but honestly frightening management.

Has potential but needs vast improvement

Pros

-Opportunity to gain a variety of technical skills and experience -Downtown location -Free snacks/beverages -Company outings

Cons

-Quarterly reviews, they provide the employee the opportunity to give feedback but it seemed that it would always be taken negatively. Your reviewed was based on how you represented the core values as an employee. If you did poorly in one category you were told to shape up by the next review (in three months) or be terminated. I felt this was a short amount of time to be able to fully improve. This made it very nerve-racking, you never know when your last day might be. -Team managers were rarely available (meetings all day long). This made it difficult for them to provide the employee with the tools they need to improve and succeed (to get a better review next time). -Getting help with an issue/problem was hard to come by -Condescendingly asked why you did something the way you did if management didn't agree with it -On-boarding new employees was a task that was discussed many times but never agreed upon so it made it difficult for new employees to get started on a good foot. -Below competitive wage compensation -A great deal of pressure put on you for tasks being done exactly on time and if you've gone over the time you are met with silent shame.

Run when you hear our 5th Core Value is Chipolte...

Pros

free snacks, variety of projects, cool location, cross functional teams

Cons

Performance reviews consist of check or check minus in chipolte, chipolte meaning you drink the koolaid. Below industry pay, especially for developers. Cult-ish company culture, team leads push semi political values, no diversity-check the about section to see all you need their "pipeline problem".

We are so sorry about your negative experience here at fjorge. “Chipotle” is only one of our core values, which represents our emphasis on collaboration between uniquely different individuals, which makes fjorge a better place to work and grow. A low review in this category means that the individual is working in a silo instead of part of a team, or does not show respect or support for the things that make other teammates unique and proud. This embrace of diversity is why fjorge has committed to the MN Tech Diversity Pledge. We will do a better job moving forward to help new employees better understand the meaning of this particular core value.
