Pros

Having trouble finding one... the name means something for now In the valley... until they become just another toxic joke of a company who once was important.

Cons

-Extremely toxic culture- high performers get overworked, the leadership plays favorites, promotions are NOT based on performance but on the whim of a HIGHLY biased exec team. -Very male-centric (take a look at their c-level exec team... and NOT the one online... because they leave token females up there to prevent tipping off what’s really going on... the REAL one). -CEO very openly discusses hiring his friends at all-hands meetings- males that do NOT go through proper interview channels. All you have to do it look at the CFO to see those practices in full effect. - Every female leader has been leveled at this company (in the name of “growth”). And others are denied promotions based on... whatever reason they think will prevent them from being sued. - A culture has been created of groupthink all veiled under innovation. -The CEO is a downright liability. Says things off the cuff, writes rambling emails to the entire global org, and is constantly putting his foot in his mouth. - Decisions and company strategy change weekly. It creates uncertainly and whiplash throughout the org.

Thanks for your feedback, and for 3+ years at Flexport. We’re sorry that your experience has not been more positive. Since the beginning, we’ve worked hard to avoid having a ‘bro culture,’ though it’s true that the majority of our small executive team are men. Hopefully you had the chance to read our Q2 Diversity and Inclusion report or attend our Q&A session about it -- we’re working hard to boost the number of women in senior leadership (currently at about 35% but we’d like to see it be much higher). It’s certainly true that, as a hypergrowth company, we have had periods of time in which our teams have worked longer hours than we would like. There has been fatigue. There has been turnover, though we monitor this closely and the rate is consistent with tech industry turnover as a whole. We have made, and will continue to make, significant investments in our employees to empower their growth and development.

Pros

Brilliant business actually changing the world. You work with smart people on interesting problems. Nice offices and amenities. Clients really love us.

Cons

The culture is toxic. The leadership team is basically all men and the company is full of sexism, favoritism and politics. Who you play on the weekends with is more important. Another example of the myth of silicon valley meritocracy.

Ryan Petersen here, CEO of Flexport. This person has made some pretty serious allegations. I'd urge readers to dig deeper to find out the truth. With regards to a culture of sexism, it's just not true. Come meet our teams. You'll be inspired by women in leadership positions at every level of the organization, including on our executive committee and running some of our largest and best performing teams. I wrote this about the important role diversity and inclusion play in our culture: https://www.flexport.com/careers/diversity-and-inclusion I also recently hosted Emily Chang, author of Brotopia for a candid conversation about diversity in the tech industry, including at Flexport. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNxrDXmtCUo&=&feature=youtu.be We're a young company that hasn't formalized a lot of our systems and we don't believe in self-promotion. But behind the scenes our people organization has done tremendous work building an equal opportunity culture at Flexport.

Pros

Interesting work High turnover so you get to meet a lot of people

Cons

When I worked at Flexport the bro culture was pervasive with the entire leadership team being comprised of middle aged white men and a single male of color. Ryan Peterson is a megalomaniac who surrounds himself with yes men. He preaches about his most important job being that of maintaining the culture of the company. Very fitting that the culture bred by a megalomaniac results in a sociopathic hunger games style working environment where leaders tend to be willing to throw anyone and everyone under the bus to try and get ahead. It’s laughable to think that this company has a serious chance of reaching an IPO based on its financial position, but speaks to the delusions of grandeur. You are nothing compared to innovators like Coinbase, Stripe etc. You don’t have to look far (read some Glassdoor reviews) to realize Flexport is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. You are not a tech company if for every $ of revenue you have to add a $ of headcount. Although based on the recent reviews it looks like they are trying to change their economics, by under hiring and over working some poor jr level operations folks. Do yourself a favor and skip the interview.
