Pros

Very friendly and driven people around you. Free lunches and dogs at the office

Cons

People are burned out by the endless work and politics. Promotions are not merit based and based solely on how likable you are to leadership and your relationship with them. Company has made attempts to create diversity in leadership, but we’ve churned through everyone within their one year. We had 5 execs that joined in 2018 that left in 2019 for various reasons—4 of the 5 were minorities. Company touts itself as a technology driven freight forwarder, but most of the success has been and continues to be driven by the manual work of the operations team. Clients are sold technology-based solutions, but we have little to no tech infrastructure to actually execute. There is a heavy finger pointing/blame culture that comes from the top down that has oozed into every department where people are less focused on solving problems and more focused on defending their work and why someone else was at fault. They made a decision to sign a lease for more office space for growth in SF and then 2-3 months later, decided to put a hiring freeze and the office space ended up going to waste and we ended up cancelling the lease and moving the few employees who moved over back into our original office space. They went through a massive restructuring at the company that they decided after 2 years was poorly designed and planned and completely reversed it. They just have zero foresight and ability to critically think. The company has had 3 lay offs within a year. That's just terrible forecasting and planning. The company does not know what direction it is going in and what type of employees it wants. Lastly, they have had poor executive hiring after poor executive hiring. After this last round with hiring and firing of our executives and his leadership team, it is very apparent that our current CEO does not know how to hire or run a company. He got very lucky early on, but a broken clock is right twice a day. Terrible diversity in the company, especially the higher you go. If you look at the executive team or greater leadership team.

Pros

- Free lunch - Strong co-workers at the IC level

Cons

Empty promises from executives. You will get laid off. Even with the recent lifeline ($250M), Flexport is on ropes, runway is very short. They claim to have far superior technology, when compared to competitors, but the entire company runs on a 10 year old ruby on rails monolith. Build time is usually 2+ hours. The company was BARELY profitable in 2021/2022 when rates were 10X what they are today, Flexport will never return to anything remotely profitable.

Pros

Some good managers and PMs

Cons

Unsympathetic “leadership”, broken promises, pay cuts, frequent layoffs, constant turmoil, zero psychological safety, no trust and no morale at all across the company.
