Pros

Great health benefits and paid time off

Cons

Now, FAU is an old building with bad pipes, mold in the walls, electrical issues, but has a new beautiful exterior paint job. Low salaries unless nepotism and favoritism have a positive impact on the salary; A degree such as: BA, MA, MBA, MD, PhD, EdD and experience do not guarantee a competitive salary; Illegal situations: nepotism and favoritism; lack of institutional and departmental communication; lack of employee development and career guidance; department heads/Directors in place due to nepotism and favoritism; employee scholarship does not cover all educational opportunities at FAU; employees pay for parking; OSHA guidelines ignored; interior buildings are very dirty/employees and students clean more than the maintenance crew; parking lots full of debris, water gutters blocked with debris and parking lots flood easily; FAU budget issues/state of FL Auditor does not have access to the actual FAU budget blunders: misdirected finances and financial hording by top level executives, deans, senior associate deans, directors etc.; incompetent financial/accounting employees at department level/college level; financially unsustainable top heavy organization; Corporate governance is needed to improve efficiency, decrease budget waste, discontinue nepotism. Currently, FAU is a public university, and it is not a for-profit organization. Thus, FAU must decrease extremely high salaries for the executives and utilize the extra money to hire more employees. Else, FAU will continue to become inefficient, overwork current employees resulting in high employee turnover, leading to inexperienced employees throughout the university. This trend already began two years ago.

Pros

Still relatively young and forward thinking. Staff is bright and talented.

Cons

Politics should have not place in running a university. FAU is only one of many state institutions in Florida impacted negatively by narrow minded state legislators and state officials. The local board of trustees is well meaning, but does not always exercise its role effectively. The office of the President has not has been out of touch with faculty and student needs for nearly 10 years.
