Pros

The intersection of technology and philanthropy is an exciting place to be. The clients, while occasionally high-maintenance, are changing the world with their collective mission, and working for Fluxx allows me to contribute to that. I've enjoyed working with (nearly) every client to whom I've been assigned. Most of the team is collaborative, cross-functional, open and friendly. The brand message is now solid, and the core values are admirable. And the product, while far from refined, is one of the best Grants Management solutions available. I would love to give Fluxx higher marks, because, on paper, it has the potential to be an incredible company and a great place to work. Unfortunately...

Cons

Fluxx has become one of the most truly toxic environments in which I've worked. The leadership are amongst the most insecure, petty, emotional and vindictive bunch I've met. Politicking has more value at Fluxx than quality of work, despite a core value indicating the opposite. The same is true for transparency; the leadership elevates transparency as a core value, though rarely practices what it preaches. In fact, the toxic environment has prompted most team members to avoid making waves at all costs to avoid the backlash that might result. In the past few months, Fluxx has hemorrhaged team members; roughly 20% turnover. While a small portion of that was deemed "strategic", at least a few were purely personal decisions, completely ignoring the negative impact on the business. More still have left after recognizing the toxicity for themselves, leaving gaping holes in the team (Client Services in particular). As a result, what was once a thriving, open, respectful and fun company culture is now much less inviting. And yet, those "leaders" that fostered the negativity are the very folks being rewarded. It's painfully obvious that the leadership are largely inexperienced first-timers and have either lost their grip on the company, or are misguided enough to think that they're doing well as leaders. And that bubble appears impenetrable. While Fluxx seems like an exciting, rewarding opportunity on paper, it is anything but. The promises of perks and opportunity are mostly empty, and the ceiling is much lower than it appears. There are so many better roles in this space to be found in the bay area, and I plan to seek them out immediately, as are many of the most capable team member at Fluxx. Good luck.

Pros

I love working for an SF startup while living on the East coast. I love that Fluxx has embraced me and my role even as I work from my home office in Boston. Working remotely has allowed me to do what I love while not uprooting my family from our home. My team could not be more accommodating to communication and time zone differences. Best part is when my team comes to Boston or I head out to SF, it's like a homecoming!

Cons

Moving and growing so fast i haven't been able to really get to know the entire team; peak outside my 'silo.' But that's startup life!

Pros

- The employees are very carefully chosen to ensure that all departments work well with one another. Everyone knows everyone and we work very closely together. Each person is very easy to get along with. People are serious when they need to be, but know how to be relaxed and laid back. - Monthly all hands meetings from top to bottom so that we know what each department has been working on in detail. We are told about any upcoming changes and our long term as well as short term goals from the CEO and CRO. - I have worked here for a long time and much more recently the management has been very accommodating. Processes are being put into place to help reduce the workload and stress. - New HR in conjunction with our operations team has been fantastic. The new benefits as well as more company wide initiatives (volunteering, game nights, team activities) have been a welcome change. Our hiring process is much more streamlined and allows us to discuss more in depth about each interview. They even went as far as to come in early to cook the entire company a warm breakfast in the morning. While it doesn't happen often, was a very nice gesture and much appreciated. - Agile processes are being put into place and are being successfully implemented. This makes each project much more detailed for both internal and external usage so that we cover more edge cases that may cause issues down the line for testing. - Knowledge share has become a larger focus. Developers sit down with the other teams every couple weeks to answer any lingering questions that may need to be answered. This helps identify potential bugs or learning gaps that need to be addressed. - Senior management is very approachable. As long as you talk with them ahead of time, you are able to sit down with them and hash out any concerns you may have. Of course we have HR to go through which is the recommended path, but being able to talk directly with the CEO allows for better clarification for any issues you may need addressed. - Learning is encouraged greatly. Stipends are given to help you better educate yourself in your field of choosing.

Cons

- The workload is neverending. There is never any downtime and it continues to pile up. Work hours can be long if people are not productive throughout the day. Time management is key if you want to succeed here. - Senior Management still has a ways to go. While process are being put into place to reduce work stress and long hours, it seems that it is not as high a priority as it should be.
