Disappointed

Pros

My team and the two leads we had were amazing and supportive and did what they could to help me grow/learn

Cons

Disappointed in my manager. I wasn’t made of aware of any opportunities to improve my work performance until 5 months into my employment, and instead of taking the time to help me grow my manager chose to put me on a PIP, in my experience those are always the last option to be utilized when all other support has failed. I wasn’t offered any feedback or support until the day before he decided to put me on a PIP. Then one week later after I was told I had improved and was doing a good job by my lead, the manager threatened me and stated “I need someone to check references and since you are the worst recruiter it has to be you or we will have to rethink your employment here” this is unacceptable from an HR manager and if you choose to work here then that is the HR manager you will be working with.

Horrible Company

Pros

There are a few nice people around… very few. Other than that there’s no other pros to working here.

Cons

- Salary is very low for the amount of work, overtime, and travel/commuting requirements, especially for employees holding an engineering degree. - Bad work-life balance due to travel and commuting to job sites. Sometimes you won’t know where your next job site is until the day before. - Install/construction training phase for engineers feels like a hazing process and provides little to no value for the office work that follows. - Company culture reeks of corporate greed. - Micromanagement of working hours despite being on salary. - Shady pay practices for salaried employees, and other restrictions that cannot be shared due to NDA/confidentiality. - Lack of growth opportunities within the company and within the industry. - Really subpar benefits - 401k, insurance, and PTO are far below other companies’ standards.

We make every effort to be fully transparent with travel and training expectations. I am sorry Ford AV was not a good fit for you. We understand that finding the perfect work fit is important. While our company culture may not be a match for everyone, we're fortunate to have a loyal team – one-third of our employees have been with us for over a decade!

Pros

I learned a lot about how modern, network-integrated A/V systems work. The company paid for my training, and where there were shortcomings I was able to ask my colleagues when I had questions. The people you work with are the best resource you have at Ford. Field employees are a treasure, treat them with respect, admiration and appreciation.

Cons

I posted this review about 4 months after I started with Ford AV, in October of 2022. I was then contacted about the review, and deleted in fear that I would be fired (due to other reviews from employees in other states). After the fact, I was overworked/undersupported until I quit to join another AV integrator. "Every jobsite I have been on with Ford AV has been a scheduling and planning nightmare. Project managers are undertrained, and are encouraged to assign unattainable timeframes to unbelieaveable workloads. I get told I'm flying across 2 timezones for a week long job 36 hours in advance if I'm lucky. Even division management is scared of the CEO/President, they don't seem like they care until they're spending money instead of making it. Don't take salary over hourly if they offer it. They'll make you work plenty of overtime no matter what, you might as well get paid for it. I'm convinced they have such high engineer turnover because they send salaried Engineers-In-Training to jobs instead of hourly install techs to save a buck. At the end of the day, it's a job, and I'm glad to have had it. I traveled, I made Southwest and Wyndham points, and I moved on with my career.
