Pros

I got to work on a few short projects where I learned a lot. Working on projects was engaging, even fascinating, because of how passionate the others were. We all cared about building great software the right way. That part was worth it, collaborating with so many wonderful people, and I'm thankful to have worked with all of them. The best part of Fueled was its people, but sadly, the vast majority are not there anymore.

Cons

I joined Fueled in 2022 when the company bit more than it could chew. It was such a good year for them that they hired dozens of us and flew us to a retreat; they expected many projects to come but instead kept us sitting around doing nothing for months. It was a bad year overall for tech in 2023; it was hard to find clients, but the leadership's decisions made it worse. They kept telling us it was all fine and not to worry about the decreasing numbers. At the same time, they chased around actually profitable companies looking to acquire them, eventually finding one, but it was too late. Then, the layoffs came, starting with a big round in November. Leadership assured us they fired the right amount of people to keep going steady until 2024, only to fire even more employees in December. I was part of the second round of layoffs; they fired me two weeks before Christmas. I can't say how many more they fired after that, but I can tell you the morale of the few remaining employees was terrible. I do not recommend applying there. The company will undergo more changes this year, and you probably don't want to be a part of that process. Perhaps after the dust settles, you might consider applying if Fueled survives.

Pros

The teammates are great but that's pretty much it now. It used to be a great company to work for with healthy work-life balance and good compensation but those days are gone now after the CEO sold more than 50% of the company and filled his pockets.

Cons

The benefits, cultures and values mentioned on the website are so outdated now. Unlimited Holiday: Its to mock you and a nice trick by the HR team. All managers are internally advised to keep track of holiday count for their DRs and try to discourage if the count goes beyond 20 leaves. So why say its unlimited in the contracts when its not. Sinking ship: More than half of the team was sitting idle last year due to lack of projects and then there were three rounds of lay-offs. Rather than actively focussing on getting new projects, the leadership team decided to let go off engineers even those who were there with the company for more than 5 years No budget for L&D or attending conferences Everyone except the top leadership and managers is a talented bunch but the leadership lacks skills and direction required to drive the company

Great company marred by poor leadership

Pros

Great people who work hard for one another (excluding clueless leadership team). Good clients.

Cons

Completely absent CEO. Lined his pockets and ran to the hills. Out of their depth, clueless leadership team. I was told at one point by a director "We're making this up as we go along". Says it all. Poor company culture. Unless you're of a certain pay-grade or title, feedback and recommendations are ignored. Product managers are empowered and given full power to run everything and can't be questioned, this comes from the painfully poor leadership at the very top. Backstabbing and complaining to mangers occurs frequently. A lot of lip service about caring about employees, yet half the company has been made redundant without notice. We were told internally another company was recently 'acquired' however it seems this was a merger and those roles are now advertised by the 'acquired' company 10up. Promotions are dangled as carrots, but poor excuses are made when they aren't given even if goals are achieved. Lots of advertised benefits but they were slowly removed. 'unlimited vacation' is a lie, all vacation requests are questioned, to the point you feel guilty for requesting them. Very untrustworthy company.
