Pros

Colleagues are amazing, everyone on my team works hard and is trying to do their best with the resources they have available. Easy commute to the office.

Cons

Working at Funko has become increasingly disheartening over the past few years. What was once a creative and energetic workplace has steadily deteriorated under the leadership of the current CEO. Rather than revitalizing the company, her decisions have contributed to a sharp decline in performance and morale. A major point of frustration has been the hiring of numerous former Amazon employees into management and leadership roles. These hires were presumably brought in to drive innovation and profitability, but unfortunately, they have failed to deliver on either front. Instead of improvements, we've seen stagnant or worsening performance metrics and continued strategic missteps with our products. The only thing making money is Mondo. This most recent round of layoffs, the fourth in just three years, reflects the deep instability within the company. Job security is nearly nonexistent, despite internal communications about restructuring and stopping unprofitable projects, neither of which appear to actually be happening. Many employees are bracing for further cuts, which are rumored to continue into the later half of 2025. Stock is at an all time low! Overall, Funko has shifted from being a fun and inspiring place to work into an environment of uncertainty, poor executive leadership, and declining opportunities. I would caution potential applicants to thoroughly research the company’s recent history before considering a position here.

Corporate Equivalent of a Midlife Crisis

Pros

You’ll definitely get some character-building experience here, especially in navigating chaos without any real direction and become an expert in crisis management. Despite all the chaos, layoffs, and managerial nonsense, I met a few of the most talented, dedicated, and down-to-earth individuals who truly cared about the work. It’s a shame they’re stuck in the same mess, but you’ll leave with a few good friendships and the bittersweet realization that the people here were the real MVPs… even if the company didn’t deserve them.

Cons

Imagine a boardroom full of people who think “fandom” is something you catch if you don’t wash your hands. Apply at your own risk—but maybe start updating your résumé before your first day. Funko hires aggressively, lays off even faster, then pretends to be shocked when morale is lower than their stock price. Not to mention at the helm of this Funhouse of Horrors is a CEO who treats insider trading like a side quest in a video game. a cash grab disguised as a collectibles company. If they could turn stock buybacks into a Funko Pop, it would be a convention exclusive. Employees aren’t assets here—they’re disposable expenses that get slashed whenever the stock needs a quick boost. One day, you’re told you’re essential to the company’s future; the next, you’re being escorted out the door because someone upstairs decided they needed to “pivot” again. If you want to work at a place where leadership actually understands their audience, values stability, and has a long-term strategy—look elsewhere. If on the other hand you enjoy empty jargon and watching a once-beloved brand fumble its way through the toy industry like a lost toddler with a briefcase— then Funko’s got a cubicle with your name on it. (for now)

Pros

The people are amazing. Everyone works incredibly hard and is truly nice and helpful when asked… if they have time. The product you get to work with is so fun and diverse. The fan base is so passionate and loyal - they immediately make you feel like you make a difference for them by adding a small slice of joy (or pain) to their day. Benefits - Their commitment to giving off the week between Christmas and New Years was great and desperately needed for sanity each year.

Cons

Funko Fast - Be prepared to sprint from the moment you start Day 1. Minimal to no documentation for training and you just have to learn things they hard way… by asking X person who is the only one who knows X process. Leadership is extremely out of touch but there is clearly a large shift happening of ushering out old and bringing in new. There is little to no leadership training for people managers and it really shows. Morale is openly low, often, and surveys openly communicate the issue but it appears to be ignored. Little to no planning or roadmapping to help organize the chaos despite people trying to internally. It’s almost as if they want to keep it chaotic just because it’s “Funko”. You may be working on 5 priorities at once and get 2 on fire issues where you have to drop everything at once. The GIF PIVOT from Friends was used often as well as the term “trauma bonding” if that helps gauge the level of chaos daily/weekly.
