Questionable leadership and limited room for growth

Pros

The company has a decent idea that could actually help people. The CPO is incredibly bright and a fantastic leader.

Cons

Not sure if they have a real product-market fit. Product development frequently gets side-tracked to close deals rather than move the needle on product quality. The CEO has a strange communication style and tends to filter information through himself, which causes cross-functional friction.

Pros

Reasonable pay, good mission, some co-workers are nice

Cons

Just look at the turnover of talented senior folks on LinkedIn, and it will tell you everything you need to know. A winning startup wouldn't lose talent at that rate. All the issues stem from the CEO. Cannot take any criticism even when he is completely wrong. Treats people like pawns to fulfill his fantasies of grandeur. Your feelings and well-being mean nothing to him, despite "humanity" being his favorite word. It's all lip service. Deeply hilarious and ironic, given he's the CEO of a workforce development company.

High intensity, high impact - my colleagues always have my back

Pros

- Inspiring and impactful work - I genuinely see our product changing people's lives every day, and we're one of the leading players in a niche, fast-growing market. - High-growth environment where everyone is pushed to achieve more than they thought themselves capable of and given both the space and support to grow. - Extremely supportive, low-ego team members - there's always someone there to pick me up, and no one feels like their own work is more important the success of the team. - Flexible work environment - work when and where you want as long as you get the job done. Nice having office available as needed and seeing teammates in person at least once a week.

Cons

- You will work very hard. There is a high intensity and pace to the work, which means Slack is often lit up on nights and weekends. - The org runs very lean. Everyone is asked to cover a lot of ground, including things outside their job description. - Career ladders aren't always made clear. More structure around role titles/levels and org charts would help employees understand what advancement could look like.
