Stepping stone job for sure

As far as stepping stone jobs it's good I guess but don't expect lab positions to be more than that. Free wine. Decent health insurance.

Cons

Unless you're extremely lucky and get a coveted management position don't expect to make more than fast food employees, regardless of degree status. Sure they give you free wine but that doesn't make up for poor wages. It's very discouraging when you know most other departments are unionized and make much more than you. On top of that winemakers tend to use the lab as a scape goat for bad results even though lab techs just report numbers. The place is great for a lot of other positions but if you're going in as a lab tech you won't want to stay for long.

Job security at a cost

Pros

Job stability and enjoy working with most of my colleagues.

Cons

Work-life balance leaves a lot to be desired. Not enough is done for those who work production/harvest roles. This company is obviously Modesto centric and if you work at a coastal winery, you'll have fewer benefits. Pay is not competitive and the company has done nothing to address inflation. Burn-out is real and not being addressed by management (local and the ELT). Culture feels toxic, political, and greedy. Not many people I work with feel valued.
