Pros

Gallo was a family owned company truly run as a familial organization. Access to senior leadership was plentiful and people were always willing to help one another out.

Cons

Geography, geography, geography- with the slide the central valley has taken in the past few years there is little incentive to move to Modesto.

Gallo pay average compensation for the central valley area Low Cost of living area, it very cheap to live in Modesto

Cons

Gallo runs on an extremely silo'ed bureaucracy where selected MBA's are given preferential treatment for advancement. There are a lot of technical tools but very few of them leverage effectivly.

Pros

Compensation relative to the cost of living is strong. Gallo is a private company influenced less by short term performance than long term performance. Predictable business cycle is based on grape harvest.

Cons

Gallo IS department has adopted bureaucratic blend of: 1) non-technical "analysts" that "face" with the customer but are many times technically under-skilled to make a strong impact and usually end-up "in the way" of people actually getting things done, 2) frustrated developers and technical experts, and 3) low-initiative and fairly clueless mid-level management selected more for their "diverse" gender and race, rather than their "diverse" competency in the IT field. I guess somebody would rather have a department that looks good in a photo rather that one which is aggressive, competent, and garners confidence from its customers.
