Pros

The company itself is big-- so it can be a hopping off point to go many places in your career. Since Healthcare enjoyed big margins until only recently, the place feels very big and important..nice buildings, good work environment. Not the worst place to work as a woman, but definitely you will run into your share of dinosaurs who seem to get away with unacceptable behavior.

Cons

Very political in the office. Still more about who you know than what you get done. Everyone has their pet project and sometimes getting everyone on the same platform is more about who's pet project wins than what is best for the company/best most productive workflow.

Pros

Seemingly lots of opportunity for movement within the company. Great benefits, best salaries in the area

Cons

No security at all. For the past 10 years there have been lay offs every other month. GE healthcare absolutely does not value their existing talent pool, always looking for the next shiny object. Four of us from my team were just laid off while the entire office is getting new Herman Miller chairs. Senior managers manage up, no care for lower employees. Middle managers are evidently not empowered to make any business decisions. No one complains due to fear of losing job.

Pros

GE is obviously a large company. As such, there are opportunities for growth and and many geographic areas for relocation.

Cons

One can never have a sense of security. For the past 4 years there have been rounds of layoffs. Job performance or years of service mean nothing, you could easily become victim to a reduction in force. Its a year to year existence in this company. Budgets are adjusted and jobs are lost. As executive leadership changes, and it changes often, new execs look to make a name for themselves and cuts are made. It's a dangerous game for employees.
