Pros

You are a driven person who likes to see results. I believe it is a great company with a great product. Your benefits are outstanding. You are a part of a stable always growing company. GE is about innovation so there is always new innovations and ideas coming to the market. The employees you work with are bright and willing to share their knowledge. The position that I do, I work for the most part independantly. I have a car and expenses to cover my job appropriately. I make my own schedule but value my customers enough to make sure they are adequately handled. That is the pride that comes from myself and working for GE.

Cons

You are expected to give up you life for the job. Hardest job you could probably ever have if you do it correctly. If you are not self-motivated you will not succeed. You often are expected to work well beyond your hours and figure out how to do much of what you do on your own. See one, do on, teach one is a definite GE model. Often things are changed unexpectedly without much thought.

Pros

There is an enormous amount of prestige when working for a company with the global reputation of GE Healthcare. This is a great company to have on one's resume, making the experience invaluable to competitive companies. The rigors involved in fulfilling my responsibilities on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis makes my experience at GE like a greenhouse of growth, professionally. The rigors are a double-edged sword. We learn to love them for the professional development, yet we hate them because they seem to take us away from the most key activities for driving sales. Overall, this is a great place to gain invaluable experience, but in my humble opinion, not the greatest place for a sales person to hang his hat for the long term.

Cons

Compensation, compared to my competitive peers, is very poor. GE Healthcare does not know how to take care of its salespeople in a way that retains the highest performers. High performance is rewarded with higher goals and non-commensurate financial pay-offs. We are simply asked to do more for the same amount of money in markets that are tightening. Our products and services are consistently priced at a premium of our competitors and in a down economy, our compensation is not adjusted to make sure that money-motivated salespeople MAKE MONEY. Also, GE is such a large ship that even the simplest decisions need to get signed off by a myriad of individuals who may or may not really have a pulse on the customer and how any given decision will affect them.

Pros

Smart, dedicated employees; good salary & benefits; meritocracy; mobility within the business to new roles & challenges

Cons

No limit to the amount of work that will be given, you have to set your own boundaries; heavy travel for executives and commercial leaders; Headquarters outside of Milwaukee, WI; difficult to choose your own next role - usually politics and networking lead to opportunities more than self-directed change; requires working within a matrix and driving consensus with many parties
