      The good with the bad

      Pros

      Interesting products that keep customers at the top of their game. For some divisions the products were very well received and made a difference. But others were just poor, me too versions of competitive products.

      Cons

      Very poor management at the top, though middle managers were generally good. One always wondered when the beatings would stop, and the answer is “never”. It was sad because so many great folks just gave up - some stayed, many walked away to competitors. But top management constantly wanted to know what you could do for them today and had no problem berating you for the wrong answer.

      Many great people (outside of management), decent pay

      Cons

      There was a time when people used to envy you when you told them that you work for GE. Now, they pity you. The benefits are garbage, the pension plan is underfunded by $50B, and there is the constant fear of layoffs. Most people there are just trying to survive in the hopes that things will one day turn around.

      Profitable division of GE but not necessarily stable

      Cons

      Antiquated management full of compliance transgressions, rampant discrimination, and exclusive behavior. The GM does not leave his room and is not interested in any innovative or new ideas and does not listen to employees. Unfortunately management does not take any action to prevent employees behavior not consistent with compliance until customers take action.
