Rules of Incompetence

Pros

As a GE employee your on your own. Salary is average for the most part.

Cons

Don't expect managerial support or help from above. Management will make unreasonable work load demands on employees and their off-time. Family means nothing . . . . . ZERO to GE Management and believe it or not, HR is the enemy. As for Safety, the managerial application and demands for mandatory compliance became the "Problem" and actually resulted in many injuries of workers trying to comply with "Stupid" mandates and requirements created by incompetent and/or task ignorant safety people, using a one size fits all mentality. Don't expect to have a job if management needs to boost their stock prices.

Stay away from GE- Toxic, unethical and stressful!

Pros

You can learn all about power plants, if that is your interest.

Cons

- I joined GE from Honeywell, at the time of joining I was told that I have unlimited vacation time and I gladly joined as I was getting these benefits already at Honeywell along with free food. After 6 months I am being told that I have 22 days vacation time! I feel like being cheated, the company that can not stand by its words speaks volumes about its ethics. - It's stressful to work at GE with no benefits as such, to a point that I suffered from stress induced acute anxiety at work and have to be on medications. Even for attending my daughter's event for an hour I was pointed out and told to take PTO while many just loiter at work place for hours or WFH while they work at other places on that day. I complained to the HR but all they did was pacification and no action on my request to change my boss/ relocate to another team. - It's a dog eat dog world in here, no concept of collaboration what so ever. New hires like me we told specifically not to collaborate even when we the bandwidth.

Not the worst, not the best

Pros

Great work life balance - permissive vacation time, generous parental leave, not much travel. Also, the people I work with are some of the best, smartest people I know.

Cons

Management can be clueless. Culture has been rough the past few years with layoffs and reduction in force. HR controls a lot of the decisions, with little line of sight to what’s actually happening. And too many buzz words.
