Pros

This development program is designed for new graduates in engineering. The Edison program lasts for 2 years, with 4 6-month rotations through various technical engineering jobs of your choice. Some members choose to move around the country (Greenville, Atlanta, Houston, Schenectady, etc) and some stay in one location. As a part of this program, each member earns a master's degree from Georgia Tech or NC State, taking courses online during the week. Each member also attends various training courses, some of which are domestic and some international. This program is great for starting off a career surrounded by other young, bright, positive individuals. This is one of the aspects that make GE one of the best companies for early career development.

Pros

GE offers many different jobs and the ability to move around. You start with 2 weeks vacation and get bumped up to 3 weeks after 1 year of service. Many of their internal training and development programs look really good on paper.

Cons

The down side is that the workload is too high to be able to utilize or enjoy the vacation you do get. Also found that the "top tier training" they provide is just a fancy way of saying you're going to work 80 hours per week for free. For about 2 years I was apart of the Edison Engineering Development Program and had one of those "light at the end of the tunnel". I pushed through the 80 hour weeks for 2 years straight only to find that the light I was working towards was just a train about to run me over... Workload has no decreased and I don't plan to work 13 hours per day, 6 days per week for the rest of my life. Also the salary is significantly less than competitors. They argue its because they provide you value through "training" although I found it to be rather poor training.
