Pros

Employee-owned company with excellent benefits and profit sharing. Excellent people to work with.

Cons

Upper management is a little out of touch with lower level employees and sometimes contribute little to the work. Training opportunities are very limited... You basically stay with the knowledge and education you came in with.

Thank you for highlighting our excellent people and employee ownership program, along with our benefits and profit sharing programs. Our culture, created by our people, is one of the things we’re most proud of at GEI. We also regularly review our benefits and profit sharing programs to ensure they are market competitive and comprehensive. We’re sorry to hear that you feel upper management is out of touch with employees and that training opportunities are limited. We strive to have a senior leadership team that is relatable and connected to employees. In fact, we are in the process of creating a senior leader visit program to help leaders and employees connect even further when a senior leader visits from another office. Stay tuned for that program, which should be launched by the end of this year. We also have an open door policy encouraging any employee to reach out to any senior leader. If you have any specific feedback on any individual or groups of individuals, you are encouraged to speak with your Branch or Regional Operations Manager. For professional training, we have several programs available. We have our eLearning, through Red Vector, where there are hundreds of courses available to support the development of technical and interpersonal skills. We also have a comprehensive safety eLearning program developed specifically for GEI. We have recently begun highlighting select eLearning courses to employees to help employees familiarize themselves with what’s available in Red Vector’s vast catalog. In 2018, we have also launched CAD, project management and account management training for individuals who have clients and/or responsibilities where this training is applicable. Our annual budget supports internal and external courses for career development. Additionally, we encourage employees to obtain professional certifications, attend professional conferences, participate in professional organizations, write and publish papers and pursue higher education. We have offer financial support for all of these items. Please speak with your direct supervisor to further explore learning opportunities at GEI and develop a customized career development plan using our career development and performance management program. Thank you for your feedback and we’re glad to hear that you’re enjoying working at GEI!

Pros

Working here has been amazing and one of the best choices I have made in my professional career. I have a fantastic manager that has taken the time to review my skills, and encourage me to move toward learning and studying for additional professional licenses, and continued higher education. The working environment has been extremely positive. I find that our office has a wonderful team spirit. I have been here just over 1.5 years and I have found the people here to be warm, friendly and extremely talented.

Cons

GEI is growing and expanding not only in people numbers, but also in core business disciplines. It will be exciting to see where we are in one year, then two and so on. I find growth to have some challenges... but at this time there are no CONS.

Pros

I worked part-time for GEI while finishing up graduate school and recently started full-time. The diverse skill-sets and backgrounds of coworkers allows for great learning on the job. There are many opportunities to get involved in a variety of projects and learn new skills. My supervisor(s) have been very supportive of learning new skills and provide interesting work. Overall, a great company in my opinion.

Cons

The Sacramento Office is growing rapidly. This has brought many positive changes, but growing pains have definitely played out. Overall, nothing negative to say.

We are thrilled that you worked for us as a student and chose to return to us as a full-time professional after graduation. Getting the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting projects and learning our profession is something we strive to offer as a fundamental part of our culture. We enjoy cultivating a work environment where motivated and engaged junior employees get to apply their formal education in a meaningful and creative way in consulting. We have been consistently growing as a company, with Sacramento being one of our fastest growing offices. Our well-established water practice has seen considerable expansion and we are excited to be able to add to our talented team in support of our clients. While we strive to maintain low turnover, we do find that consulting isn’t for everyone. We understand that as students graduate and seek out their first professional job that some thrive in consulting while others may find different ways to apply their technical skills in careers that are a better match for them and that process can contribute to turnover. Thank you for choosing us, a second time, for your career and we hope that you enjoy a long, successful career at GEI!
