Pros

-Excellent training. The rotational programs are designed to move you quickly "through the ranks", so you will have to pick things up quickly. GEICO has mastered the training process and give employees the ability to learn a lot about insurance and processes in a short amount of time. -Great opportunities for development - mandatory training for Lean Six Sigma Programs, supervisor training, etc. GEICO gives a lot of focus on development, which can be more difficult to find at other companies. -Profit sharing - however, I would caveat this with, while it's seemingly a huge incentive, with the low salary, it still puts GEICO behind the rest.

Cons

-Salary - coming out of college, I didn't realize what I was worth as an employee, considering my education level. If I had a better understanding, I would have attempted to negotiate my salary. However, even management is making pennies compared to other large private sector companies or government organizations. -Workload - this goes hand in hand with salary. The expectations, escpecially in the claims department (somewhat less in other departments), are somewhat outrageous. While it is an invaluable learning experience to take with you elsewhere, it's not sustainable for the long-term (especially with the salary structure). -Mixed Feelings about Management - like most jobs, you'll encounter good managers / supervisors, and some that are not so good. Gossip among management is a huge issue - this can come with any workplace, but most people I knew compared working at GEICO to actually working at a high school. While I valued so many mentors I worked with along the way, it was almost astonishing how some particular managers were able to reach their positions with their general attitude.

Pros

Leadership training Life experience I made more than other recent English Major Graduates

Cons

Horrible Hours Immense stress Self Esteem Drain Many of us Quit at the same time - We were miserable. It's ward to put into words in a quick summary, but I had a friend who wouldn't put on her makeup until she arrived at the parking lot because she knew she would cry all the way to work. I went in with a lot of self confidence, and I left with very little sense of self worth. No individual person made us feel this way - it's just structured in such a way that unfortunately that sets you up for failure.
