Pros

GEICO is extremely stable and they don’t fire even when they should (it’s gotta be outright egregious behavior). Profit sharing is nice - 10% into your 401K and whatever leftover goes to you. Underwriting department is generally pretty chill and I enjoy most of the people I work with. Recently got additional work from home days and we have the option for a flex schedule. Promote-from-within mentality, and PMAs get pretty much automatic promotions after 6 months. Generally have the ability to rotate teams freely. Because of the laidback and easy (though annoying) nature of the job, it’s attractive to stay.

Cons

Very low salary for not only our skill set, but also the DC area. Only 2 weeks PTO for first 5 years (WFH does help). Management is constantly changing how teams are organized, causing analysts to get shifted around on a whim and leaving some with little work to do. Management passes down ideas and doesn’t listen when recommendations are given - always lots of pushback. Analyses are often not completed because of constantly shifting ideas and priorities. Some supervisors/managers should not be in those positions and management is not willing to listen to associates, even though the high turnover rate is partially caused by said supervisors/managers. If you’ve been at the company for over 2 years, you’re a high-tenured associate and will be training people left and right because management isn’t willing to keep the tenured people and will just continue to hire.

Pros

- Competitive Pay - Benefits - Bonus (if you get it) - Promotes from within

Cons

- AWFUL attendance policy (badge reports, must be badged in 7.75 hours per day under the stress that you can get a badge report run on you at any given time to be used for termination) - SIX MONTHS until ONE work from home day (and that's IF you qualify) - CROWDED OFFICE (at capacity, which means no privacy, anywhere (cannot even find a place to make a private phone call), crowded bathrooms) - old half wall cube styles, so you can hear everyone around you when trying to hold conference calls - Silo'd departments - Cheaps out on basic things, such as free coffee for the employees (can you believe they actually charge for GEICO brand coffee in the cafeteria? How insulting)

Pros

The profit sharing is the best thing about Geico. If you have any decent work experience and good skills, and are middle aged, you'll be miserable. Geico does NOT care about the talents of those already on board. they make choices based on numbers and if you're a college grad, or actively going to college for what THEY want you to study. Other than that they just want you to sit at the phone and stay out of their hair and accept all their horribly chaotic imperfections while they crucify you for a call closing they did not script for you! ( scripts are made for imbeciles that don't know how to talk to people properly..) that is NOT most good claim reps. the micro managing by stooges is intolerable.

Cons

With Geico's new "fast track" to management program for college grads - its chaos. No one with real experience, or REAL aptitude for management or supervisory positions will ever get a chance, and the real workers must endure the 20 somethings with NO real job experience pretending to be important and knowledgeable. Every college grad in the company is promoting - I mean Sales to claims , claims to service - it makes no sense they know nothing! and the HEAVY grad recruiting is just adding to it all. Turn over is so fast in supervisory you are literally on your own while "supervisors" go to basic classes, along with other entry level hires, whole floors are left virtually with no one who really knows anything - on duty. And all the newbies want to re-invent the wheel at Geico - or just run numbers. Talk about ETHICAL issues! I won;t even start. Lots of stupid mistakes, sweeping stuff under the rug, its awful. Their business plan is NOT going to work much longer - I predict mass exodus of customers and employees. I know 10 associates that have gone to Progressive.
