They reel you in with the pay and benefits, and then when you realize the job is terrible, you have no way to get out.
Pros
Good pay, generous paid vacation and sick time, good health insurance. (This is how they reel you in)
Cons
Everything else. You are micro-micro-micro-managed at GEICO. Everything you do is monitored. You have no freedom what-so-ever. Every single aspect of your phone calls are picked apart... from your word choice, tone of voice, your pace, down to the way you breathe. You are never good enough. There's always something you can be doing better, no matter how hard you try. Customers are extremely rude. Call volumes are insane... Back to back to back calls from the moment you go "ready" to the end of your shift... And you only get two 15 minute breaks and a small lunch. You need to use the bathroom? You better be able to hold it until your scheduled break times.. unless you want to be questioned as to why you took 2 minutes of your alloted 30 minutes of break, and reprimanded for it. Management is rude and doesn't care if you're over-worked or are stressed out. Everyone at GEICO ends up getting FMLA for some bogus reason just so they can take more time off because of the stress of the job. Almost nobody has any care-time left. Metrics can sometimes be impossible to reach, and depending on your region, the bar keeps getting raised higher which makes it even more impossible. They don't tell you during training that as a customer service representative, you're expected to sell customers homeowners insurance. Think I'm just a disgruntled employee? Ask anyone else you know who has or currently works at GEICO. They'll tell you the same stuff.
