Ain't what it used to be.

Pros

So many of the things I would have listed here are unfortunately doubtful now. I would have listed good pay but now that is not as certain due to the elimination of the annual bonus. Stability is sketchy now too. A company that used to brag about never laying off people has now lost that right. On a more positive note, GEICO offers decent benefits including tuition reimbursement.

Cons

We were spoiled by a CEO that worked his way up the ladder by starting in the mailroom. Tony Nicely loved this company and the people it was comprised of. After Tony retired the foxes started to circle the hen house. We are now led by a Berkshire Hathaway bean counter that seems completely disconnected with the GEICO culture that Tony nurtured.

Pros

The supervisors are supportive. Benefits are pretty cool.

Cons

Recruiters do an absolutely terrible job relaying the actual details of the Management Development Program. Also have to accept the offer within 3 days, which is very questionable, especially if they offer you early in your senior year of college. Almost like they're forcing you to accept. The actual program is less than for the most part. You will be doing the exact same training as Auto Adjusters, so besides pay, there is no real difference between the Auto Damage MDP and the Auto Damage Trainee. The training itself is really, really intense. You will not get more than 4 hours of sleep for upward of two months. You take "quizzes" everyday for two months. In "preschool" you learn every part of the car and how thy function, and you're quizzed on it everyday. Quizzes count 70% of your overall grade; oh yeah, you must maintain an overall average of 90%. So, if you are an upcoming/new college graduate looking in to a management development program, please look elsewhere. You do not want to be the person who accepts this job, and are sent home after you don't maintain the 90% average. PLEASE DONT DO IT TO YOURSELF. It's not worth the stress, you probably won't be exposed to none of the details throughout the on boarding , interview process, they're not up front with anything regarding the program, which makes sense once you're in the program. Don't be banboozled by the name "Management Development Program". You are still starting from the bottom of the totem pole.

Laid off after less than a year

Pros

Opportunity to gain experience since every department is short staffed.

Cons

I remember reading all the negative reviews and wondering if it was really that bad when I accepted a role at GEICO. Was told over and over by my manager how desperate GEICO was to fill IT roles and all the great opportunities. A short while after I started they laid off the entire Agile team they had just created with zero communication to anyone. People suddenly just disappeared off Workday. Now they came for the Technical Analyst role which is another they just created. Myself and lots of others are totally screwed after only being here a matter of months. Lower level managers have no clue what happened and upper level managers only communicate through the occasional email. If you are at all considering an IT role and come across this review please reconsider. I thought strong job performance and positive feedback from everyone I worked with would protect me. The layoffs are random, company wide, and driven by people 3 levels above anyone you work with who don’t care who you are.
