Corp services culture = use and discard

Pros

Good golden handcuffs pay, office near Mrt, good facilities, deep pockets buy side company

Cons

1) There is a lot of blood changing going on, which, I understand. Organization renewal is inevitable, and at some point in our career, we will inevitably face redundancy and hence the need for retraining. What I don’t get, is how they can discard you just because they think you have outlived your importance. Yes, supposedly compassionate enough to have voluntary exit packages to send staff on their way out etc. But who gave you the right to discard people after they have clocked certain years? What happened to all the preaching about retraining, reskilling, tapping on older workers ( and mind you a lot of discarded staff have not even hit 45!) 2) The culture has evolved to a state where sucking up to bosses, playing to their agendas, and putting on a full theatre production ( mind you song and dance is no longer good enough) is what gets you rewarded. There was a time where they recognized you need good hardworking people to get things done, and they reward you for it. Now, they reward you for being best actor and actress. This is rife in corp svcs dept. Was already like that previously somehow can get even worse. And brownnosers are still empowered to lead the BEST teams.

Pros

Opportunities for rotation. Colleagues are competent and friendly. Definitely a less cut throat environment. Compensation and benefits are not the best in the market but still keeping above average. Openness to try new things though buy in for subsequent implementation is not easy.

Cons

Growing from a small company to the current strength of over a thousand people, process planning may have been neglected. This resulted in processes not being well defined or formalised and you will need to spend a lot of time to talk to people in order to understand what is going on. More technology is not equivalent to more efficiency. There is need to have that one person to review the company IT system architecture holistically rather than allowing everybody to decide what they want and later let them drown themselves trying to integrate and reconcile data between systems. OneGIC needs to apply to its system architect too. Too much resources wasted on inefficient systems which is unhealthy for the company in the long run both in terms of company's financial and employees moral.
