Pros

* This company is a thought leader in a niche space with first mover advantage * The branding has settled itself to go to the next level * A few good people can make your tenure worthwhile

Cons

There are so many that its even difficult to know where to begin. So let me just list them in a random order. * At the top-most level, the company has good funding but doesn't know how to scale. A service-heavy organization which also spends unnecessary amounts on travel of innumerable people without adding value to those visits, seem not only pointless but also less of a "product" company. * Biggest problem is the employee onboarding. There is no direction, no way that you get onboarded well and there is a complete absence of process. * There is also a major issue in conveying the right message while hiring. What is explained as a strategic role during hiring process, ends up being a tactical role which is where the interest level wanes for senior people. * The product also seems to be stuck and there is nothing new on the horizon. * I have observed some people who work really, really hard and are constantly under pressure, while some of them have just enough work for 3-4 full days a month, something wrong with capacity planning. * The biggest, biggest problem is the concept of power centers. There are so many discussions and counter-discussions of who all are the power centers and who should one align to. This is completely avoidable, but being in Gainsight and after observing all decisions and perspectives, you have no other way to grow than get into the politics of it all. * There are some very good technologists, no doubt, the problem is that everyone wants to innovate technologically with something entirely new. Only hitch, this is supposed to be primarily a customer success company leveraged by technology. Here, product takes the backseat and "cool" technology quotient becomes the talk. The flipside of this is that features are completely non-consistent and you cannot do basic stuff for pretty rudimentary data models. * Too many cooks spoil the broth? Wait till you have too many architects on one product. The discussions are a nightmare and you end up trying to convince this army of architects and end up taking a middle-ground which sets you up for failure. * Some of the people (including quite a number of old-timers) need basic education in professional etiquette and language. The rudeness, attitude towards female employees, general temperament are highly jarring and misogynist. Also some emails which you see in the internal "fun" DL called loonies are downright racist, sexist, ageist, classist, and politically inflammable. * The absence of a good competitor is also worrisome in a way since it fails to validate this vertical which Gainsight has carved out for itself

First of all, I really appreciate you writing this. You chose to share input to help your former teammates and we owe you a lot for that. Secondly, I'm so sorry for your experience. Anyone (customer, employee or anyone else) having a poor experience with Gainsight pains me greatly. It sounds like we failed you and I failed you and I'm sorry for that. Thought I can't repay the favor to you (likely - though feel free to email me anytime!) I will do my best to make sure we act on your input. I don't yet have specific points on your (useful) feedback but broadly, my goals are aligned with yours and my aspiration is to build a company that is leading in innovation, employee engagement and diversity (themes you hit). If you had a poor experience, we have more work to do and we'll keep doing it. I welcome any and all feedback and thank you for sharing it!

Negative environment

Pros

- The company itself has shown solid progression in the marketplace. - Certain departments/leaders show promise.

Cons

After taking a lot of time to contemplate my sentiment towards Gainsight after leaving the company in 2016, and after having months of experience in a new role/new company, I have been able to form a thorough perspective on Gainsight as a whole and the truly negative environment that exists in its workplace: -- MOST IMPORTANTLY: As a new employee, you will not be set up for success. As opposed to other companies where your manager will support you how you need it, be your internal champion, and set you up for success --> here, your manager will most likely throw you under the bus, not help you overcome your weaknesses, or have a condescending attitude towards you. They will not look out for your best interests, and that will become clear to you. Therefore, your work will suffer, your growth will suffer, and you will find yourself in an extremely negative environment. -- Managers (specifically mid-level ones) want your life to be as difficult as possible. There is no care or concern for your personal life or life outside work, but there is a care to make sure you stay under them and don't proceed up the company ladder. Your hours, your ability to success and grow, and your personal life will suffer. -- There is a facade of helpfulness and collaboration. Having this attributes is what the company might like to think, but after experiencing other work environments, one can quickly realize that at Gainsight, everyone has their own agenda, and they only care about themselves. There is no genuine desire to collaborate or help, only to do so if it benefits that person. This creates an extremely negative environment that lacks true innovation and creativity. -- You will be extremely micro-managed. You will not be able to have a remotely autonomous experience or be able to push initiatives on your own. If you don't fall perfectly in line with those around you and above you, you will be ostracized. -- You will be unhappy. No one at this company is happy and it's because of the negative culture that has been set by mid & mid-to-high level managers. Don't get me wrong - there are a ton of extremely talented people at this company. It's beyond me as to why they've stayed as long as they have, but I'm confident that won't continue unless things change.

Thank you for taking the time to write this. It's clear from the thoughtfulness that you put into this that you care about your former teammates and want things to be better. That being said, I'm so sorry for the pain I've caused you in your time here. I own this personally as CEO and it's my fault that you had a bad experience. I probably will never be able to repay that to you (though feel free to reach out to me if I can) but hopefully I can pay it forward with other teammates. I truly am sorry. This post brought me great sadness. Our process when we receive Glassdoor input (good or bad) is to post it online internally to spur more input/dialog. I received several posts in our public forum internally (Chatter) and several more submissions through our anonymous feedback system. I won't go into the specifics here though I'm glad to, but please know your post sparked good dialog and you should be proud for trying to make your former company better. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. Again, I truly am sorry.

Pros

- Very strong and approachable executive management - Everyone helps out - there are no fiefdoms - Robust solution offering in a space Gainsight created

Cons

- Still a relatively small company; expect to rollup your sleeves and get out of your comfort zone - While growing, the customer success space is still in nascency and higher risk
