Merchandise Planner--easy position but boring.

Pros

Amazing work-life balance in-line with the San Francisco lifestyle. Leaving at 4pm on a Friday was accepted, as was an hour-long lunch outside. Gap offers great benefits and its corporate headquarters have an amazing location. Excelling training programs.

Cons

Felt very stagnant and bureaucratic. While there was definitely room for growth, it was very formulaic, i.e. 1 years here, then moving to a division with more volume, 2 years, 3% raise, then consideration for a promotion, etc. The work was also very formulaic and after about 6 months I could plan my categories in minutes.

Benefits Work life balance Location, really amazing offfices As a result of the size you will learn infinite ways of looking at the business and ways to measure risk

Cons

Large company with very little product innovation, because o the size of the company people are often afraid to take the risks needed to move the brand forward.

Pros

Gap offers a strong brand and resources dedicated towards employee training and development. Also good benefits - generous PTO, employee discounts, etc.

Cons

Very difficult to transfer between departments so not a good place for long-term development unless you really love retail. Compensation is below average. Promotions and raises are based more on politics than performance. Little to no emphasis on management training so you may be managed by people with limited skills and ability.
