poorly maintained equipment including trucks. Static pay below competitive average with a .25 dollar a year raise that you have to remind them to give you then wait for it to kick in. Often very slow about reimbursement. Will fire you on a dime

Pros

The pay is high for Nova Scotia and they will take anyone with a restricted firearms license and a pulse. Great initial firearms training & great firearms safety instructor. Strong union.

Cons

Unreliable hours. Shift work. Terrible vehicle safety. Almost no driver training. Sexism. Difficult to get a full time position (union), and cannot start from a full time position. No benefits without an official full or part-time position. Everyone starts as a casual. Expected to pick up the phone for shifts almost every time they call or you will not get shifts - often on very short notice.
