Pros

- rewarding and fulfilling work - extremely talented, smart people everywhere (all depts) - employees are high-quality people with great values/integrity - competitive salaries - amazing and affordable healthcare options - 5% no-questions-asked goes to personal retirement (pension) - 401k match is 7.5% if employee contributes 10 - 5+7.5 is 12.5% match when maxed - financially stable company with extremely few layoffs - low turnover

Cons

- CEO is not a public speaker - exec team does not interact with teams/depts - exec team does not provide vision first hand - vision and values are stale - very flat organizational structure - As a former outdoor eng employee, Garmin doesn't support some of the initiatives that REI or Patagonia might. Show you care and give back as a company!

Pros

CEO has a background engineering: no non-sense requirement for Six Sigma or other process stuff. Tools are created to drive process extremely efficiently. Mentoring: they assign you a mentor who will work with you exclusively until you can confidently step on your feet. There is weekly meet up with your manager to answer your questions and concerns. My last companies did not spend this much of effort in the mentoring as well as Garmin does. Work-life balance: 40 hours a week (rarely over time). Community: friendly and willing to help each other. No time-sheet or charge code, where large corporations usually require. Stock discount.

Cons

No end of year bonus.

Pros

Fantastic benefits, work campus, cafeteria, daily fitness classes/gym (I got hundreds of dollars worth of yoga/month for free! - main thing I miss). Most of the people are great - a few pills.

Cons

In Cartography, you get to learn how to do a few things well, but there is not much growth potential. I was a high achiever and had the opportunity to work on a special project, but had that project not come up, I would have been doing the same thing day in and day out. This was a great first job out of college to get my bearings and learn about the working world, but by no means a place to stay. Leadership/Supervisory positions are pretty entrenched with a long waiting line.
