Pros

Great place to start your career in sales Learn how to communicate with C Level Executives Develop transferable skills that will set you apart when you leave Gartner Learn Business strategy Benefits are great

Cons

Quotas are not aligned to opportunity within for each AEs opportunity within their book of business/territory Many uncontrollables that will determine your success or failures Value prop is changing for supplier side of the business. It will be a few years until the product resonates with buyers. Your manager means everything to your success. Gartner hires from within and will promote based on a year of success and likeness. Not many leaders in the management position but more order takers. Not many sales tools to support your success

Pros

Great training, they make sure you're ready to hit the ground running. Reputable company which makes for a great first full time position on the resume.

Cons

Culture, which is a major bragging point for Gartner is quickly festering into a toxic work environment. Pay discrepancy success, and overall happiness in the role is totally dependent on which function (finance, hr, risk, gov) and you have no control in where you are placed. This leads to people in easier jobs getting paid more and getting more recognition for simply sending out generic emails a few times a week.

Pros

Great health benefits. Can engage clients in interesting discussions. Best fit for less mature salespeople to build contacts and resume.

Cons

Retaining clients is much harder than described during interviews. To reduce cancels, Sales has to stay involved in service. To overcome often huge losses, Sales must make these up so your high quota just increased. All this happens while your daily activities are micro managed for the top priority, net growth. Forget about PTO. Nonstop stress and scrutiny has more good reps leaving.
