Pros

- Research team is top notch (at least the ones that I interacted) - Ability to understand and learn about new tech landscape (through research) - Metrics driven company - Encourage to fail fast; hard to get this type of direction from the executive leadership team - Inspiring Product Leader I'm not expanding on Pro's since these are pretty straight forward.

Cons

May be my expectations was so high for a brand like Gartner, but I was surprised in many different ways, Gartner advises clients on how effectively manages IT organization, but unfortunately they don't apply their own advise/insights internally. Gartner is running some of their key business functions on platforms that was sunset a decade and half ago. Product Team: I'm not sure about middle management. I personally worked with 2 key leaders in Product team, I should say Gartner surprised me there again!! This is a standard con in any company. You can make a really good career if you are in the right product team. Unfortunately, there are not so good teams in Gartner specially managed by the folks with lack of client business knowledge or team management experience. You will be micromanaged if you get stuck with one of them (beware you will be asked to share your calendar). In certain product teams, you will not have ability to speak your own words. If you don't use the words that was used by the leader in the team, then you will be given "feedback" on what words to use in the presentations. This indicates ONLY one thing, there is NO TRUST with team members due to lack of team management experience. Location: For some reason, Gartner Product team so much tied up with the location which is a key barrier (for attracting top talent). You will be asked to work from Connecticut location if you want to be in the product management team. If you want to gain a true product management experience, there is a good chance you will be disappointed with any role in the Gartner product team (Research team produces the actual product).

Pros

Corporate experience, benefits and salary.

Cons

No matter what you try to do to achieve your set results, 95% of the time outcomes are completely outside of your control. They set you up for failure from the start and if you work at client services organization you are up for a really frustrating ride. They will make you feel like you won the lottery during training but as soon as the honeymoon phase is over (6mo if you are an intelligent person) you will understand what you really signed up for. They take pride on promoting from within and don’t really apply anything they advise their clients to do so big changes are that your managers and VPs have less than half of your educational experience and have no idea of what goes on outside of their bubble. They manage numbers, not people and do not take any criticism or suggestions lightly. Vertical approach to change and no advancements opportunities outside of management within the call center. If you want to move horizontally, you will have a hard time. If you work with real IT or in sales department, your experience will be different but at client services it will be like this. Employees are all unhappy, turnover is so big that HR is struggling to keep up. Leadership knows it and is still averse to fixing the problems.

Pros

I love the work that we do serving clients and delivering impact. I also love our focus on continuous improvement and driving new innovations that matter to our clients and our business. Finally and most importantly I feel truly privileged to work with my colleagues at Gartner. They are an extraordinary group of professionals that inspire and energize me daily.

Cons

We have more good things to do than there are hours in the day to pursue. Prioritization is critical.
