Pros

You learn a lot about how businesses work and you get decent benefits.

Cons

The "sales is at the center" mentality does not shine through. You actively have to work to get management to approve anything for you to make money. Prospect lists are awful an ran through. Middle management makes a big paycheck without having to do anything. If you don't drink the "kool aid" you won't be successful.

The Good, Bad and Ugly

Pros

Surrounded by smart people on the analyst and delivery teams. Never ending stream of new IT strategies and recommendations to enrich your knowledge. Great for your resume.

Cons

Management steeped in groupthink. Everyone agrees in the meeting that the idea is great but in private can't believe they are being asked to execute on it. Your pay and bonus directly tied to your performance on metrics, many of which cause behavior which is not beneficial to your client. New ideas are only valuable if you formerly worked for McKinsey. Convoluted and complex products that clients struggle to understand and consume. Stale leadership.

Psychologically damaging

Pros

-some of the people are excellent, particularly from the legacy CEB team -access to executives

Cons

-there are some good managers but the vast majority were promoted from IC roles with zero experience or support and have no idea how to manage teams effectively -everyone is a number and if you happen to be placed with a not so great territory or have a tricky first year in a new territory, managers will find a way to get you off their team; if you get unlucky with a bad manager your support network will be nonexistent -the undue stress caused by certain managers (whose only responsibility is to micromanage you to a number) is dangerous and psychologically damaging, I was degraded by my last manager at Gartner and his manager and HR simply did not care -diversity was not taken seriously at the time that I left the company -I strongly recommend considering any other job opportunity that you may have available to you.
