Pros

You will learn a lot Gartner. A great place to start a career in IT.

Cons

Fort Myers, FL is a culture shock. It is a retirement city. They sold me a dream to move down here.

Pros

Compensation and benefits are very good. Rewards trips for those who make 130% of quota are an added plus.

Cons

There is a serious retention problem among sales people, especially among sales people of color. Complaints about glass ceilings and lack of opportunity and business support are rampant. They rely on referral based system for recruitment, further isolating their pool of applicants to those who "know" people already employed at the firm. There seems to be no appetite to seek out senior, experienced individuals that don't fit a specific "type" that is obvious to many there. Even at rewards trips for successful sales people of color, they feel isolated and ignored by management, and other sales individuals.

Pros

The organization is high performing and full of smart people who get the job done. Domestic and international travel to fantastic locations and a sense of fulfillment upon executing a successful event. Great HQ office with good cafeteria and gym.

Cons

The Events BU is pure chaos. From event ops to event sales, it’s just all over the place. Sales is given unrealistic numbers that are virtually impossible to achieve for many events in the portfolio. The Event Ops Teams know that money is no object and will change their minds over and over until the last minute - Money to execute these last minute changes is no object, but your sanity might be. Those in the more senior and executive roles are “married” to Gartner. The women who are successful in these roles are those who are not married and/or don’t have young children. It’s a very cliquey environment full of young 20 and 30 somethings - backstabbing is not uncommon. The Events Senior Leadership Team is mostly made up of former colleagues from another company and there’s no penetrating that circle. They outsource a ton of their business so if you’re looking to execute event logistics, most will be handled by a third party.
