Pros

• Gartner’s brand is well respected and with good reason. The analyst pool and executive partner roster are world-class. You have access to successful former executives and thought leaders on a daily basis. • You might get the opportunity to have an impact. I’ve seen new hires present to the CEO. If you put work in you have the chance to stand out. • Very smart people overall who are generally helpful and collaborative. • Good health benefits.

Cons

• The cycle of work is seemingly never-ending. Though the firm speaks about work-life balance, the reality is that for most teams, being accessible at all hours is a requirement to stay in one's job. This has made stress and burnout ubiquitous. • The culture resulting from being on 24/7 instills fear and uncertainty. Employees are scared about losing their job as there is no communication when the firm makes significant strategic decisions. There are a small handful of people who wield the power at the firm. Without having an ally among this group, it's difficult to achieve upward success. • Gartner's C-suite lacks diversity. White men dominate the operating committee (and 1 white woman). The firm has spoken about diversity recently but has not made any tangible commitments ($$$) to creating an environment of inclusion for people of color. • The C-suite has mismanaged the CEB acquisition. There’s been little effort to help the people on both sides of the acquisition understand and trust one another. It’s led to unnecessary pain for employees at both heritage Gartner and heritage CEB and has significantly undercut the firm’s prospects for growth.

Pros

Pay and the benefits are decent but not worth the constant stress

Cons

There is a culture of stress that feels like you’re constantly being watched and babysat. Management only cares about numbers! The orientation process is a joke! The training is given by some former sales team member that always brag about how much money they made on the sales floor. If that were the case, why did you leave to teach some ever changing foundational theories to new employees? The company has a crazy high turnover rate which makes sense once you’ve spent a week at this place. There are mandatory trainings that teach you little to nothing about your actual job on the floor. It’s simply not a sustainable business model and it shows with all of the recruiting they have to do.

Pros

Gartner's sales process is world class. Truly. World. Class. If you are a fantastic AE, Gartner will make you better. No question. The benefits compared to other companies in the Bay Area are AVERAGE at best. There is work life balance, but you have to GRAB IT and prioritize it. They pay very well, and top performance is highly revered and rewarded. If you want to make $$$$ and no capped comp, this is the best place to be. If you want to be challenged daily, this is the place to be. If you want to learn daily, this is the best place to be. Want to engage with C-Levels, this is the place to be.

Cons

The middle management of this company is literally the WORST I have ever experienced in my professional career. They manage UP and are literally not capable of managing down. They do not effectively educate their managers PERIOD. Want to see walking talking HR violations at ANY OTHER COMPANY, visit and meet with managers at Gartner.
