Pros

Good to have on resume.

Cons

Culture has become toxic. Senior leadership is a joke, disconnected, and not trustworthy. Pay isn’t keeping up with the industry or cost of living. Everyone with experience is leaving or has left. Retention is nonexistent and nothing ever changes. Employee surveys are at a D ranking and leadership celebrates the “progress” when comparing it to surveys during covid and massive layoffs. Stay away.

Pros

The Benefits at Genentech are amazing. I have access to Mental Health resources, Coaching, great Healthcare, and many more benefits. The people I work with are mission driven and care deeply about our work and others. They are also some of the smartest people I have ever known, so I always learn from them. Flexible work arrangements - I am able to WFH or go into the office, and this flexibility is important to me as a working parents.

Cons

The Global Hours are rough. The People and Culture (HR) team went through a major transformation last year (2021) and we are no longer a local support team, but are now a Global function. I have calls at 6:00 AM and 10:00 - midnight. The Global model is still in the infancy and has a lot of kinks to work out. We are losing a lot of talent in the Bay area becasue of the new model :-(

Pros

Great benefits. Pretty campus. Name recognition.

Cons

Genentech was a place to make important innovative medicines. Once it bacame part of Roche, it now seems much more focused on political correctness. Below senior management, don't expect to be fast tracked if you are white and/or male. Pay is competitive, but slightly below other Bay Area companies.
